Significant Pursuit by Renaissance Guy

Favorite Literary Heroines

Eve at The Third Eve (see my blogroll) listed her most “snoggable” men from literature.  I thought her list was good.  I already posted my list on her blog, but in case you don’t want to go there (you should), here it is.  You can post your own list, should you decide, either here or there, as I will be continuing to read the comments at her blog.

NOTE: Some of these ladies would be too young to “snog” at the beginning of their book or series. I’m referring in my list to the grown-up versions.  Also, most of them got married, and I am married, so this “snogging” would have to have occurred in our mutual pre-marriage days.

1. Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

2. Jo March from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

3. Anne Shirley from Anne of the Island by Lucy Maude Montgomery

4. Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

5. Alexandra Bergson from O, Pioneers! By Willa Cather

6. Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

7. Melanie Hamilton in Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

8. Helen Hudson in Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C. Douglass

9. Margaret Schlegel in Howard’s End by E. M. Forster

10. Maid Marian in the Robin Hood stories

NOTE:  It was hard to think of ten “snoggable” women in literature.  It would take several blog posts to discuss why.

I took the test you linked to and had this outcome: “You’re not out for perfection – you want someone unpredictable, sometimes arrogant, sometimes sweet, but always exciting. And that’s why you need Richard Sharpe, the swashbuckling Napoleonic hero dreamt up by Bernard Cornwell. He’ll shoot your ex, plonk you on his horse and ride off into the sunset – though he might not wash as often as you’d like.”

    I don’t know who Bernard Cornwell is…

I wandered over here from 1 One Poet 4 Man and I think I am hooked simply because you listed Elizabeth Bennett as your #1 most snoggable. I love her–not in a snoggable way, of course (I love Mr. Darcy for that)–and I love that book. You must have good taste.

Alicia, thanks for stopping by. Yes, Pride and Prejudice is a great book. I like Jane Austen’s novels very well.

I think most female leads in Thomas Hardy’s books will do. Especially Tess and Bathsheba.

    AnthonyNorth,

I thought of Tess, but decided on someone else instead.

I tried that test and came up with Daniel Deronda. I’ve not only never heard of him, I’ve never read anything by George Eliot. Maybe I’ll have to check it out of the library when I’m finished with the half dozen books I’m already in the middle of.

Pauline, George Eliot is worth checking out. She was a great writer.
