Questioning Pelosi’s Motive

October 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

American Elephant has an interesting post on the proposed resolution by the House of Representatives to call the killing of Armenians in 1915 “genocide”.  He refers to a Wall Street Journal editorial that calls Speaker Pelosi’s motivation into question.  In light of all advice not to move forward on the resolution, why isn’t Pelosi backing down?

As usual, American Elephant states things more emphatically than I would, but I agree with (him?/her?) in substance.

Believe me, I sympathize with the Armenians.  I think that what happened to them could properly be called genocide.  However, I have changed my opinion on the resolution in light of the various people who caution against passing it.  They include Madeleine Allbright and Warren Christopher, according to this CNN article on the Armenian genocide resolution.  Moral issues are often black and white, but foreign policy issues often aren’t.
