Significant Pursuit by Renaissance Guy

A Triple Blessing

If you wrote the following story as a sitcom plot, people would say it is too far-fetched.  There are just too many surprises involved in it.

A 47-year-old woman in Australia, Janelle Perry, has just given birth to triplets.  Her age is the first surprise.

The next surprise is that the babies are probably identical triplets, which is a very rare thing, happening in about 1 in 500,000 births.  To be identical means, of course, that they are the product of only one egg and one sperm that split three ways early on.

Another surprise is the couple had just about given up hope of having another baby after trying unsuccessfully for two years.  On top of that, these babies were conceived completely naturally–with no fertility drugs or any other artificial means.

Another surprise is that this new mother of three already has two grandchildren.  Those two kids now have three uncles that are younger than they are.

The final surprise is that Mrs. Perry’s daughter Rebecca, aged 4, reportedly had already told her mother that she had three babies in her “tummy” before the mother even knew that she was pregnant.

Truth really is stranger than fiction sometimes.
